Mike Langer is a registered patent attorney with over 20 years of experience advising on business and intellectual property matters, with particular expertise in the life sciences and chemical industries. Mike is a strategic advisor to a wide range of clients, including major research universities, emerging and mid-sized companies, and Fortune 500 corporations. He assists clients with all of their intellectual property needs, including strategic counseling, preparation and prosecution of IP applications, commercialization, enforcement and portfolio management.
Mike has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications directed to chemical and life sciences matters. His chemical experience includes alloys, analytical reagents, catalysts, ceramics and glasses, chemical compositions and formulae, chemical processing methods, coatings, consumer products, dyes and pigments, food products, insecticides, ionic liquids, liquid crystals, mining processes, luminescent compounds, metallurgy, polymers, pulp and paper products, and water purification systems and methods. His life sciences experience includes antibodies, bioinformatics, diagnostics, drug delivery systems, laboratory equipment and assays, medical devices, medical and biological imaging (e.g. fluorescence imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, radiography, spectroscopy, thermography), research tools, and therapeutics (small and large molecules, biomolecules and immunotherapeutics).
Before joining the Belles Group, Mike practiced with an AmLaw 200 law firm for 15 years, where he served as the Chair of the Life Sciences and Chemical Industry Group for nearly 5 years. Prior to that, Mike practiced for 6 years with an intellectual property law boutique in Portland, Oregon. Mike also worked for several years in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries and in academic research.
