Michael Jordan is a patent attorney with transactional and litigation experience in many intellectual property legal areas such as patent law, trademark law, brand management and trade dress law, copyright law, and trade secret law.

Michael’s practice includes Transactional IP Practice, encompassing patent and trademark acquisition, IP licensing, IP due diligence (in M&A, IP portfolio transactions, licensing, etc.), and IP counseling.  Michael also has IP Litigation experience that includes patent litigation, trade secret litigation, unfair competition/false advertising litigation, trademark litigation, and brand/trade dress litigation.  Michael has experience with infringement studies, freedom-to-operate opinions, invalidity analyses, and patentability analyses. 

Based on his background, including his work experience in capital construction management and electrical, instrument, and control engineering, Michael takes an interdisciplinary approach to his legal work.  Before becoming an attorney, Michael served in both the pulp & paper and chemical industries.  During his engineering career, Michael concentrated on automation and data acquisition systems; systems integration; system reliability and integrity; process control; process safety and hazard analysis; process and analytical instrumentation; electrical power distribution; energy management; production unit maintenance and management; capital investment planning; and capital project management.  Michael has dealt with the Occupational and Health Administration (OSHA) and OHSA requirements and regulatory compliance procedures; construction contract bidding, administration, and change orders; construction permitting and licenses; construction incident investigations; building codes; electrical codes; environmental codes and permitting; and many other construction and engineering issues.

Throughout his career in intellectual property, Michael has engaged in all aspects of preparation and prosecution of design patent applications, utility patent applications, and trademark applications in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Michael also has a great deal of experience with patent prosecution in numerous foreign patent jurisdictions, such as China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, and the European Patent Office.  Michael's background allows him to assist clients in all areas of intellectual property law.  Michael also has a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in trial advocacy that he uses to support litigation projects in various legal areas. 

Michael is knowledgeable and experienced in a wide range of technologies, including: consumer products and appliances; electrical and electronic circuits, devices, and systems; mechanical and electro-mechanical medical devices; medical implant technology; mechanical devices; virtual and augmented reality technology; sport devices and broadcasting technologies; fire control and suppression systems; various industry standards, including standards-essential patent acquisition; business methods; software; computer memory and networks; semiconductor devices and manufacturing; oil drilling technology; RF communication and devices; electro­-mechanical, mechanical, and software-based toys and amusements; video compression and communication; HVAC systems and associated controls; cable television and set-top box technologies; ultrasound technology and medical sonography devices; power systems; power distribution metering and relaying; lighting devices and systems; analytical and process instrumentation; and wireless telecommunications.

In addition, Michael has worked on pro bono matters through the Homeless Advocacy Project of Philadelphia. Michael assisted in cases involving obtaining birth certificates, legal name changes, pension benefits, and appeal of SSI/SSDI denials. Michael graduated from Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law, magna cum laude where he took advanced courses with an emphasis on intellectual property and technology. Michael also received his LL.M. in Trial Advocacy from the Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law.
