Brian L. Belles concentrates his practice on counseling clients in intellectual property-intensive business sectors to help his clients gain advantages over competitors and succeed in the market.  Brian’s legal expertise and business acumen covers a broad range of industries, including consumer products, semiconductor, acoustical materials, nuclear technologies, medical devices, military equipment, nanotechnology, network systems, wireless communications, internet applications, software and electronics.  By understanding his clients business objectives and risk tolerance, Brian provides his clients with a wide range of legal counsel, including the development and monetization of intellectual property portfolios, freedom-to-operate studies, complex licensing, risk assessment and amelioration, and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Brian started his career with a number of prestigious national and international law firms where he developed a foundation in patent preparation, prosecution, enforcement, and licensing strategies.  During his career with the large firms, Brian quickly gained the trust and respect of his clients for his ability to understand their business objectives and develop and implement legal strategies to achieve these goals. Throughout his career, Brian has also gained valuable insight into the pressures and expectations put on in-house counsel by performing prolonged in-house secondments with multiple global corporations.  Brian has also developed numerous patent portfolios that have been successfully litigated and enforced against competitors, resulting in either licensing revenue when monetary compensation was desired or injunctions when competitive technical advantages could not be compromised.  Whether counseling start-ups along the path to acquisition or utilizing intellectual property to maintain market dominance, Brian utilizes his intellect and business acumen to develop intellectual property focused strategies to achieve his client’s goals in an increasingly challenging commercial environment.

Brian founded The Belles Group, P.C. in 2008 with the goal of becoming a true business partner to his clients, one that is unbiased by the influence of billing hours, cross-marketing, and fee generation goals.  Since then, The Belles Group, P.C. has grown steadily while keeping this core-value at its forefront.
